Doctor Visits

Luke had his one month check up on what was supposed to be his due date - May 26th.  He weighed in at 8lbs!  Little guy is growing like a weed.  Pretty soon he won't be so little.  :)

The doctor was really happy with his growth.  Right now he's in the 50th pecentile in weight and the 75th percentile in height.

We did however find out that Luke had a double hernia, so the poor guy had to have surgery the Tuesday after Memorial Day weekend (May 31st).  So we had to make yet another visit to St. John's for surgery.  It seems like that hospital has been our second home the past few weeks.  Scott and I were both so worried that they were operating on our 5 week old baby, but the surgeon assured us that this is very common in premature boys and that he fixes hernias on children more than another other operation.  We really liked the doctor and trusted him 100%.  This is something we needed to fix sooner than later so that it wouldn't become a bigger problem down the road.

Luke did great in surgery.  Scott and I - not so good.  We were both a wreck for that hour he was in the operating room.  Handing him over to the nurse was probably one of the hardest things we've ever had to do.  I guess this was one of our first of many experiences where we've been worried sick about our son.  My mom always tells me that you don't know the worry until you actually have a child.  Boy was she right.   Since Luke was almost 6 weeks early the doctor wanted him to stay overnight.  Here are a couple pictures of Luke in his hospital room.  He was such a good boy the whole time.  Well...besides the 2 hours after he woke up from the anesthesia.  That was not fun!!  The good thing is that we all got through it and Luke is all back to normal now - hernia free!

This was when he finally calmed down after the anesthesia.  He was not a happy camper.  Poor guy.
